The Height of Hypocrisy

This is the title of the latest blog entry of Ms. Ellen Tordesillas, “Cebu Priests Barred From Celebrating ‘Mass For Truth’.

Cardinal Vidal says that the Church should not get involved. Coming from him, I do not know whether to laugh or to cry. He asserts that Cebuanos do not need to hear Lozada because they already heard what he has to say. He asks why people regard Jun Lozada as a hero. Well who does he suggest we trust:

  1. GMA who even the Church itself considers a thief but continues to project herself as the self-sacrificing and long-suffering leader who only has the interest of the Filipinos at heart;
  2. GMA’s Cabinet who has woven a web of lies so complicated that even they themselves have been trapped in it;
  3. Romulo Neri who seemingly in a brave fashion called Ben “Borjer” Abalos a liar to his face and yet immediately hid behind the protection of executive privilege the minute he was asked about his conversation with the luckiest bitch (according to one of her advisers);
  4. Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales who basically said in his pastoral letter that we should all be sinless and blameless before we can demand that this government clean its acts;
  5. The Bishops who have lost all moral ascendancy to lead their flock because they have used all passages in the Bible just to rationalize the sins committed by their “generous benefactress”;
  6. Donald Dee and other businessmen like him who believe that the only interest that matter are their business interests;
  7. Solita Monsod and other intellectuals like her who absolutely believe that GMA cheated, stole and lied but asserts that those reasons are not enough to ask for her resignation because the economy is doing so “good”; or
  8. Jun Lozada who by his own admission, was a willing participant in graft and corruption but has chosen to come out with the story of greed about himself and this government without fear of the consequence of his action.

Regardless of what motivated Lozada’s confession, to me his sincerity is genuine. Sa inyo po ba Cardinal Vidal, hindi ito obvious?

When the faithful questions the priests and bishops why they continue to celebrate mass for GMA, the standard response was “the Church does not meddle in politics”. In fact, they even give communion to former President Estrada who boasts of his “conquests”. What then do you call the ban for Cebu priests to officiate in the Mass for Truth?
